Commissioning Engineer

Commissioning Engineer Summary:

Provides engineering and technical support to plan, schedule, coordinate and execute full life cycle commissioning of critical facilities on a labor contract value of under $10,000. Participates in the MEP design process; witnesses the static and dynamic testing of complex mechanical, electrical and controls systems and operates the system in normal, maintenance and failure modes of operations by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Assists in the development of commissioning plans.*
  2. Assists in engineering design reviews.*
  3. Assists in the static and dynamic testing of UPS, emergency power, generators, central mechanical plants, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, precision HVAC systems, life safety and controls systems.*
  4. Interacts with contractors, interprets design and specifications.*
  5. Deals with clients, tries to resolves problems within the scope of the design.*
  6. Conducts site observation surveys and prepares field reports on the status of projects and completion of projects with respect to compliance to the plans and specifications.*
  7. Prepares punch list reports and determines corrective measures for on-site problems.*
  8. Prepares general condition survey reports.*
  9. Familiarizes oneself with codes, local project regulations, construction practices and the latest equipment functional concepts.*
  10. Familiarizes oneself and obeys all the projects safety requirements including specific on-site regulations.*
  11. Communicates all projects safety concerns to employees involved projects.*
  12. Performs routine calculations.*
  13. Applies and reinforces education programs.*
  14. Participates in professional trade associations and societies.*
  15. Acts as project coordinator with other field engineers, coordinating printing, presentation and administration procedures.*
  16. Reviews shop drawings and submittals.*
  17. Develops MEP test procedures.*
  18. Develops MEP operating procedures.*
  19. Responds to RFI's when requested by PM Team.*
  20. Monitors performance of contractors.
  21. Performs various administrative duties.
  22. Performs other duties as assigned.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel and Deltek.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. A. / B. S.) from four-year college or university; and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
